Jamie Hawke
Jamie joined the Cale in 2009 and has done both worlds tours, and the 09/10 and 10/11 domestic seasons. Jamie is heavily involved with solos, and is one of New Zealand’s top A Grade soloists; having won the Silver Chanter in 2007 and the Gold Medal in 2008. Jamie competes in Scotland regularly as well, having placed 2nd in the MacGregor Memorial contest at Oban in 2007. Jamie is currently involved with teaching piping at St Andrews College.

Liam Kernaghan
Liam joined the band in 2009, and has done both the 2010 and 2011 Worlds trips, as well as the 09/10 and 10/11 domestic season. Liam won the Silver Chanter in 2010, and placed second twice in the Gold Medal (2010, 2011). Liam began to compete in Scotland in 2011, and played in the prestigious MacGregor Memorial contest at Oban. Liam is involved with local teaching in Dunedin, as well as assisting local bands.

Graeme Bryce
Graeme Bryce and his wife moved to Christchurch in January 2012. “Brycey” as he is affectionately known is renowned for his superb ear and talent with reed manipulation, and has provided the band with yet more expertise. Graeme comes to the band with years of experience from bands like Strathclyde Police, 78th Fraser Highlanders, Peel Regional Police and Dysart and Dundonald to name but a few. He was also a successful solo competitor.

Athol Chalmers
Athol has played in the Cale since 2008, and has done both Worlds trips with the band as well as three Nationals. Athol is from Canberra, Australia, and is the current Pipe Major of the Canberra Burns Club Pipe Band. His past bands include the world-famous Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band. Athol has a wealth of knowledge which has proved invaluable to the bands growth and development.

Bradley Guy
Brad joined the Cale in late 2010 and competed with the Cale at the 2011 Worlds. For the 2010/11 season, he was also the Pipe Major of St Andrews College. Bradley is a regular competitor in B Grade solos throughout the country. He currently studies Music at the CPIT.

Cameron Darby
Cameron joined the band in early 2011 and competed with the Cale at the 2011 Worlds. For the 2010/11 season he was also the Pipe Corpoal of the St Andrews College Pipe Band. Cameron regularly competes in solo competition, having being recently elevated to B Grade. He currently studies at Lincoln University.

Dave Wilmott
Dave has been in the band for longer than most can remember! He has served as the bands Pipe Sergeant under Liz Drury and Jim Allan. Dave went with the band to the World Pipe Band Championships in 2010. Dave is a master composer and has put together several of the band’s past medleys.

Euan MacCrimmon
We are very lucky to have Euan involved with the band. Euan is a world-class solo competitior, who -amongst all his other international success – won the Gold Medal at Oban in 2005 and the Dunvegan Medal in 2006. He has played with the Spirit of Scotland Pipe band in 2008 under Roddy McLeod MBE. Euan is based in the United Kingdom, but came across for the 2011 National Championships, and competed with the band in 2010 and 2011 at the Worlds.

George McEwan
George has been a member of the Cale since the 80s and has been involved with the administration of the band for some time. George competed with the Cale at the Worlds in 2010 and 2011. George is the band’s IT expert and is a huge asset to the day-to-day maintenance of the organisation. George is a regular solo competitor, currently competing in A Grade.

George Solomon
George has been a part of the band for some time, including serving as the bands Pipe Lance Corporal. George was a former member of the 78th Fraser Highlanders Halifax Citadel Pipe Band, alongside Rowan, and played at the 2005 World Pipe Band Championships with them. He recently became engaged to his partner, and resides in Christchurch.

George Stick
George joined the Cale in 2011, having his first outing with the band at Victoria Square Day. George attended St Andrews College and was the Pipe Sergeant of the Band for the 2010/11 season. George studies engineering at the University of Canterbury.

Harry Hawke
Harry joined the band in 2010, andwas part of the team that travelled to the 2010 World Pipe Band Championships. He also led the St Andrews College Pipe Band in the Juvenile Grade. He is currently also the Grade 3 band’s Pipe Major. Harry is an avid soloist and competes regularly in the A Grade throughout New Zealand. Harry is a regular prize winner in the Silver Chanter, amongst other prestigious solo competitions.

Innes Smith
Innes is another one of our international pipers, currently living in the Bridge of Allan, Scotland. He is a doctor currently completing research at the University of Edinburgh. Innes is a world-class solo competitor, having won the Silver Medal, as well as recently winning the Dunvegan Medal in 2011. Innes previous played with the Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band. Innes joined the band for the 2010 World Pipe Band Championships, and again competed with us in 2011.

James Wilson
James has been a member of the Grade 1 band since he left St Andrews College in 2003. James went with the band to the 2010 World Pipe Band Championships. He currently lives in Auckland where he works for a recruitment agency, after spending several dark years at Otago University.

Jim Allan
Jim joined the band back in the 90′s and never looked back. He has served as the bands Pipe Corporal and latterly the Pipe Major, leading the band from 2004 through till 2009. Jim is an experienced solo piper as well and continues to take an active interest in the development of pipers; Jim serves as the Principal of the Society’s School of Piping and Drumming.

Katie Lawton
Katie has played in the Grade 1 band since 2009, and has done two worlds trips and two domestic seasons with the band so far. She previous played for the Grade 3 band, and she has been involved with the society as a dancer since she was a wee girl too. Katie competes regularly in the B Grade, and in 2010 scored success in Australia by winning the “B” grade aggregate at the R U Brown competitions in Adelaide.

Malcolm Galloway
Malcolm joined the band in 2011 and competed with the band at the 2011 World Pipe Band Championships. He previously played with the NZ Police and City of Wellington Pipe Bands. He is a lawyer based in Wellington. Malcolm is a regular competitor in A Grade throughout New Zealand.

Richard Cox
Richard joined the band in 2009 and since then has done both worlds tours with the band, as well as doing both the 09/10 and 10/11 domestic season. Richard is an avid soloist and competes in A Grade throughout New Zealand. He also is involved with the City of Dunedin Juvenile band, based in Dunedin, where Richard currently lives.

Rowan Manson
Rowan is another one of the bands most experienced players, and is a top solo piper herself. She competed with the band at the 2011 Worlds, as well as doing the domestic season. Rowan previously lived in Canada and played with the 78th Fraser Highlanders Halifax Citadel Pipe Band. She is a teacher in Christchurch at the moment.

Sean Hodgman
Sean joined the band in 2011, and is the band’s resident astrophysicist; he recently submitted his PhD, a week before he went with the band to the 2011 World Pipe Band Championships. He currently resides in Canberra, and plays alongside Athol in the Canberra Burns Club Pipe Band. He travelled to the worlds with them in 2004 when they went in Grade 2. Sean regularly competes in solo competitions as well.

Tom Glover
Tom joined the band in 2010, and competed with the band at Palmerston North in late 2010 for Square Day. Tom was set to travel with the band to the worlds in 2011, but alas the birth of his first child meant duties at home beckoned. Tom regularly competes in New Zealand and in Scotland for solos.

Jamie McEwan
Jamie has been a member of the Cale since 1998, and was Leading Side from 2001-2009 until handing the reins over to James. Highlights for Jamie have been winning the NZ Drumming Championships in 2000 and 2006, as well as the band’s first trip to the Worlds – not to mention conducting the Cale’s Annual “Roast”! Jamie is also an experienced tutor, having taught at various workshops throughout the country.

Tom Hill
Tom has been with the Cale for the last two seasons and has loved every minute of it. After starting out with the St Andrew’s College Pipe band, Tom has enjoyed several successful trips to the worlds with various bands and is in ‘A’ grade for solos. He also teaches extensively and travels regularly to play with various bands.

Mark Weir
Mark lives in Wellington and joined the corps in 2009. Previously running drum corps at Tawa, City of Wellington and Auckland and Districts with  many championship wins under his belt. Mark has successfully competed in solo’s in NZ and Australia. He enjoys having the opportunity to play alongside his great mates and his daughter with NZ’s best. When not drumming he can be found managing an Electrical Install company or dabbling with microcontroller programming.
